The Government has confirmed that the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme will be closed to new entrants when it introduces ‘flexible furloughing’ on 1 July 2020. This means that in order for staff to have completed the 3 week minimum furlough period by that time, they must be placed on furlough for the first time by 10 June 2020 at the latest if their employer wishes to claim under the scheme going forward. If you’re thinking about claiming under the scheme, use our template letters to make sure you follow the correct process when you’re furloughing your staff. For the latest information about ‘flexible furloughing’, see our Q&A and keep an eye out for further updates from us when more guidance is published.
