Free Furlough Leave Agreement for a staff member on family leave

This letter can be used to request a staff member’s consent to being placed on furlough leave whilst they are on a period of family leave (for example maternity, paternity, adoption or shared parental leave). It will also set out the arrangements that will be in place whilst they are on both forms of leave. For a furlough leave agreement letter for a staff member who is not on family leave, or for one who has recently returned to work from a period of family leave, use Furlough leave agreement letter instead.

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme allows employers to furlough staff in order to claim a grant of 80% of their wages from HMRC, up to a maximum of £2,500 per month. This is designed to support employers through the COVID-19 pandemic. The scheme permits employers to place staff who are on a period of family leave on furlough leave and to claim 80% of their enhanced family leave pay. This letter can be used to obtain a staff member’s consent to this and to set out the arrangements that will apply to their period of furlough leave, including the prohibition against them carrying out any work for their employer.

Once your staff member has signed up to the terms of this letter, use Furlough leave confirmation letter to confirm that they have been placed on furlough leave, and keep a copy of that letter for 5 years.
